These terms cover your use of Storybase as an author, a publisher, or a reader. Storybase is operated by Storyline Creative LLC, an Oklahoma limited liability company. Our Privacy Policy explains what we do with your data, and our Messaging Terms cover text messages specifically.
These Terms of Service are an agreement between you and Storyline Creative LLC, an Oklahoma limited liability company (“Storyline Creative,” “we,” “us”), which owns and operates the Storybase platform. “Storybase” refers to the platform and service; Storyline Creative is the company behind it.
These terms govern your use of Storybase, including our website, web app, mobile apps, and related services. By creating an account, buying or claiming a book, publishing a book, or otherwise using Storybase, you agree to them.
If you do not agree, please do not use Storybase.
Storybase is a publishing, engagement, and monetization platform for authors and readers, operated by Storyline Creative LLC. Authors publish and sell eBooks, audiobooks, and print editions, share them with readers, and stay in touch with the readers who ask to hear from them. Readers buy, claim, read, and listen to those books.
We provide the platform. The books, courses, offers, and messages on it are created by the authors and publishers who use it, not by us.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Storybase, and old enough to form a binding contract where you live. If you are under 18, you may use Storybase only with the involvement of a parent or guardian.
You are responsible for the accuracy of your account information, for keeping your password secure, and for activity that happens under your account. Tell us promptly at hello@storybase.io if you believe your account has been used without your permission.
You keep all ownership of the manuscripts, audio, cover art, and other material you upload. Nothing in these terms transfers your copyright to Storybase.
To run the platform, you grant Storybase a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, format, transmit, display, and distribute your content — including creating the file formats, previews, samples, share cards, and print files needed to deliver it to the readers you sell or share it to. This license exists so we can operate the service, and it ends when you remove the content, except for copies readers have already lawfully received and for backups or records we are required to keep.
You represent that you have the rights to everything you upload, and that it does not infringe anyone else's copyright, trademark, privacy, or other rights.
When you buy or claim a book, you receive a personal, non-transferable license to read or listen to it on Storybase. You are not buying the copyright, and you are not buying an unrestricted file.
You may not copy, download and redistribute, resell, publicly perform, upload elsewhere, or use automated tools to extract books you access on Storybase. Sharing your account credentials to give other people access is not permitted.
Access can depend on an active entitlement — a purchase, a share, a credit unlock, or an ambassador membership. If that entitlement ends, access to the book can end with it. Your own notes, highlights, bookmarks, and reading progress are kept and are restored if you regain access.
Payments are processed by Stripe. Storybase acts as the merchant of record for purchases made on the platform and remits the author's share to the author, less platform and processing fees disclosed at the time of sale.
Prices are set by the author or publisher and are shown before you pay. You authorize us to charge your selected payment method for the amount displayed, including any applicable taxes and, for print editions, shipping.
We never store your full card details. Payment credentials are handled by Stripe.
Digital books are delivered immediately, so digital purchases are generally final. If something is broken — a file that will not open, an audiobook that will not play, a purchase that did not deliver — contact us at hello@storybase.io and we will make it right.
Print editions are printed on demand. Damaged, defective, or misprinted orders are replaced or refunded. Because each copy is produced for you individually, we cannot accept returns for change of mind.
Nothing here limits refund rights you have under the law where you live.
Storybase offers paid plans for authors and publishers, and a paid plan for readers. Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period until cancelled, at the price shown when you subscribed.
You can cancel at any time from your account settings. Cancellation stops the next renewal; it does not retroactively refund the current period, and you keep the plan's features until that period ends.
Subscriptions purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play are billed by that store under its own terms, and must be cancelled and refunded through that store rather than through us.
Author earnings accumulate from completed sales and are paid out on a regular cycle, subject to a minimum payout threshold. Payouts require a connected Stripe account in good standing, and U.S. authors reaching the applicable annual threshold must provide tax documentation before further payouts are released.
Refunds, chargebacks, and reversed payments are deducted from earnings. If a reversal happens after a payout, the amount may be recovered from later earnings.
Eligible authors and publishers can run ambassador programs, where members share books and may earn a commission on resulting sales at the rate the program owner sets. Some programs are free to join; others carry a subscription set and billed by the program owner.
Commission and access terms are set by the program owner, not by Storybase. Membership can be ended by either the member or the program owner, and access granted through a membership ends with it.
Storybase includes AI features, such as conversations about a book you have access to. Responses are generated by a language model and can be wrong, incomplete, or misleading. Do not rely on them as professional, legal, medical, or financial advice.
AI conversations about a book are grounded in that book's content. Authors do not receive the content of your AI conversations, your notes, or your highlights.
If you separately opt in, an author whose book you claimed may send you text messages. That consent is never required to receive a book, is given per author, and can be withdrawn by replying STOP at any time. The full messaging terms are at storybase.io/messaging-terms.
When using Storybase, you agree not to:
The Storybase platform — its software, design, and the Storybase and Storyline Creative names and marks — belongs to Storyline Creative LLC. These terms do not give you a license to use our trademarks or to copy the platform itself.
If you believe material on Storybase infringes your copyright, email hello@storybase.io with a description of the work, where the material is on Storybase, your contact details, and a statement that you believe in good faith the use is unauthorized. We remove infringing material and terminate repeat infringers.
You can stop using Storybase and close your account at any time.
We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these terms, creates legal risk, or harms other users or the platform. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why. If we terminate your account without cause, we will refund any prepaid, unused subscription fees.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination — content licenses for copies already delivered, payment obligations, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification — survive it.
Storybase is provided “as is.” We do not warrant that the platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular book, offer, or feature will remain available.
We do not endorse, verify, or take responsibility for books, courses, offers, claims, or messages created by authors and publishers. Your dealings with an author — including anything you buy from them off the platform — are between you and them.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Storyline Creative is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, or goodwill.
Our total liability for any claim relating to Storybase is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred U.S. dollars.
Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, in which case they apply only to the extent permitted.
You agree to indemnify and hold Storyline Creative harmless from claims, damages, and reasonable legal costs arising out of content you upload, your use of the platform, or your violation of these terms or of someone else's rights.
We may update these terms as the platform changes. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Continuing to use Storybase after a change means you accept the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oklahoma, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute that is not resolved informally will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, and you and Storyline Creative consent to that jurisdiction.
Before filing anything, please email hello@storybase.io — most problems are faster to fix directly.
